In-Board Low-Pass Filtering

High-speed printed circuit boards often have many low-speed I/O cables attached to them. These cables may require a filter on every line, which can significantly increase the cost of the connector or add components to the board. Missouri S&T researchers are investigating ways to build low-pass filters directly into the board without adding to the cost of the board or requiring significant board area. They have also developed a novel low-cost SMT design that significantly attenuates noise harmonics above a few hundred MHz.
